European Security and Defence matters are in good hands with the Eurocorps (EC).
Starting on 12th November the Command Posts of this NATO and EU Headquarters will deploy to the French training facility MOURMELON to exercise in a EU-led operation.
In addition, the Etat Major de Force 2 from NANTES (FRA) and the French/German Brigade will deploy their Command Posts.
The exercise-scenario will provide the framework for the biggest exercise ever under an assumed EU mandate. The virtual exercise is well suited to provide the training tool for the 2000 personnel from the EC-Headquarters staff and its subordinate HQs and units from Belgium, France, Germany, Spain and Poland.
The generic scenario, played on the physical surface of Andalusia, portrays opposing countries with mixed ethnic entities and different economic conditions. Available military forces are not balanced within the region and are another source for instability, fed by the autocratic political system in one of the countries. The European Union and forces from the member states make efforts to reduce tensions, but due to the lack of cooperation they will not be successful in mediating. After a period of increasing aggressions they will have to support the defence of one of the countries.
Twenty nations will participate with officers and soldiers integrated in the exercise, most of them EU-member states. But even non-members accepted the invitation to join this training opportunity and will contribute to the colorful multinationality the Eurocorps is famous for. So will be the equipment deployed, most notably in the field of EC's expeditionary CPs and new and interoperable communications devices from the EC nations.
Media representatives will be invited to visit EC during a Media Day, scheduled for 25th November, which is equally the day on which we will present HQ EC to Distinguished Visitors from the Nations, the EU and NATO. The invitations will be sent out in due time. The program will comprise an introduction into the exercise, a guided tour through the Command Post and most probably a press-point with the Commander, Lieutenant General Pedro Pitarch (ESP).
Public Information Office of Headquarters Eurocorps will appreciate to welcome you to this event.
