The Communication and Information Systems (CIS)

G6 Branch

The Communication and Information Systems (CIS) are increasing factors of strength for the Eurocorps. They promote transparent and real-time access to all the information that is useful for the Eurocorps Commander, to gain awareness and understanding of the situation and, consequently, achieving the necessary information superiority.

In order to do that, these systems:

  • Provide adequate Command and Control means to Eurocorps, making possible the connectivity and the information exchange requirements with its subordinate and adjacent units, and other relevant HQ's and organisations.
  • Ensure connectivity in a NATO or EU led operation.
  • Encourage more efficient co-ordination in multinational joint operations, thanks to a common view in the different command levels.

The required CIS capabilities to build up these systems are included in the dedicated CIS Units, provided by the Framework Nations (FN), and also in the recently created EC CIS Coy integrated in the MNCS Brigade. This Brigade co-ordinates the efforts of the EC CIS Coy and the FN dedicated CIS units in order to maintain the constant quality of service in the benefit of the users.

G6 must, in this context, ensure that the CIS deployment is in accordance with the operations evolution and guarantee the coherence of the Eurocorps' Communication and Information Systems "as a whole".

Consequently, G6 contributes to create the conditions that make possible:

  • The deployment of the dedicated command and control information systems (CCIS) capabilities, adapted to the Eurocorps' organisation, in order to contribute to the setting-up of command posts in a joint environment, and providing all kinds of information exchange requirements, including multimedia services (Internet, mail, VTC, etc.), and simulation and staff training.
  • The top-to-bottom flow of information, by establishing a tactical area communication system, using the trunk nodal network, SATCOM assets, and combat network radio capabilities.
  • The establishment of an adequate Information Security (INFOSEC) policy, that, in accordance with the level of risk, imply the adoption of computer security (COMPUSEC) and communications security (COMSEC) measures.

In summary, the EC CIS organization is to guarantee a high level of efficiency, maintaining high security standards, in order to make possible that Eurocorps accomplishes its missions.

Information Management

Information Management co-ordinates the availability of information for all concerned people of Headquarters Eurocorps. The function is divided to DOS who provides the policy of the Chief of Staff, G3 who gives operational inputs and G-6 who is responsible for the technical realisation inside the office equipment of all HQ EC, such as EC LAN, software, networks of different levels and Functional Area Subsystems.
