On 23th April 2025, Eurocorps organized a Green Day. The goal was to inform and educate our personnel and their families about environmental protection. Local authorities, press and the families of our members were invited during the event. Trees and other plants, vegetables and spices were planted in our barracks. Eurocorps has taken actions to protect the environment since many years and Green Day is more a symbolic restart and even stronger commitment for the years to come.
EUROMETROPOLE Biodiversity Charter
On 9 April 2025, referring to the EUROMETROPOLE biodiversity charter, Eurocorps officially applied for the status of champion in recognition of companies’ efforts in terms of environmental protection and biodiversity. Various actions have been taken in the past, since its creation, and many other actions are planned for the future.
What is environmental awareness and why is it important?
Environmental awareness is crucial for several reasons. First, it is essential for protecting human health. Pollution, such as air and water contamination, is linked to various respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, greater environmental awareness promotes sustainable behaviors, such as waste reduction and responsible consumption. Lastly, taking care of the environment ensures a healthy future for generations to come, preserving ecosystems and natural resources that are vital for survival.
The Role of Individuals in Environmental Protection
Every individual plays a crucial role in environmental protection. Simple daily actions, such as reducing plastic use, recycling, and conserving water and energy, can make a significant difference when practiced on a large scale. Choosing sustainable transportation options, like biking or public transport, and opting for local and eco-friendly products are other examples of environmentally responsible behavior. By supporting companies that prioritize sustainability, we help create a market that values the planet.
The Role of Companies in Promoting Awareness
Companies have a pivotal role in promoting environmental awareness. Through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, businesses can adopt eco-friendly practices while influencing their employees and customers. Companies can reduce their carbon footprint, invest in green technologies, and minimize the use of unsustainable materials. Furthermore, by educating their employees and offering environmentally-friendly products, businesses can encourage their customers to make more responsible choices, further amplifying their positive impact.
And what about Eurocorps?
Eurocorps already realized numerous actions over the last few years:

Our target: Champion level
For all its past commitments and current dynamics, the Eurocorps has applied for the «champion level» of biodiversity according to the Eurométropole charter and expects to receive this label as soon as possible, strengthening a dynamic of improvements that is inscribed in time for years to come in a identified planning process.

EUROCORPS in the next three years?
There are a lot of ideas and initiatives to add to biodiversity, and these following are confirmed to take place:
- Installation of 3 mounds of bed in our barracks
- Insect hotel
- Shared garden
- Collective composter for the shared garden with food waste of the kitchen and other organic matter
- Installation of photovoltaic panels on the roofs
- Education events for the families and children of our members
- The increase of our canopy coverage (tree planting)
23th April 2025 – the start of our renewed commitments
On this day – named Eurocorps Green Day – the inauguration of the first bed mound will take place in the presence of numerous local authorities and the highest ranked officers in Eurocorps. A clear sign of the importance of biodiversity efforts in the region.
The bed mount, installed close to our entrance, will consist of trees, flowering shrubs and grasses (some are evergreen). The authorities present will plant these trees on this inauguration day.
Before the inauguration, all military personnel in Eurocorps will be briefed about biodiversity and environmental protection, in order to improve personal and common efforts in this domain.
Aside from this inauguration, families and children of Eurocorps members will be present and will plant various vegetables, spices and plants in another area as an educational part about biodiversity.
In conclusion, environmental awareness is essential for the survival and well-being of our planet. It is a shared responsibility among individuals, businesses, and governments to act now to address pressing environmental issues. Through small actions, education, and systemic change, we can make a positive impact. Let’s start today—every choice we make can contribute to a healthier, more sustainable world for generations to come.
