The exercise combines a wide range of complementary activities, from academic sessions to reinforce fundamental knowledge, and especially exercises command and control conducted from a deployed command post.
“Preparing to ensure operational readiness in fulfilling our mission.” This is the main purpose of the Eurocorps training plan, which is carried out both independently and within the framework of NATO and the European Union. Through a detailed exercise program, which sets the daily battle rhythm of this European headquarters, progress is made in individual and collective training across different combat functions. This is the case with the exercise COMMON TENACITY (CT26), which takes place mainly from September 2026 to January 2027.
CT26 Exercise is a key internal training initiative designed to prepare Eurocorps for its Joint Evaluation scheduled for the end of 2027. More than a single event, «this exercise is a comprehensive series of activities aimed at strengthening our collective readiness, improving our procedures, and ensuring that the headquarters and its supporting units are fully prepared to operate effectively in a demanding operational environment», points out Belgian Colonel Frederic Thiry, chief of the G7 Branch of the Eurocorps Headquarters (EC HQ).
On the other hand, the exercise programme combines a wide range of complementary activities. These include academic sessions to reinforce fundamental knowledge, specialized technical and process-oriented training, the development of plans at Joint Headquarters level, as well as command and control exercises conducted from a deployed command post. Together, these activities offer a realistic and progressive path toward operational excellence.
Exercise COMMON TENACITY involves the entire Eurocorps. Success depends not only on the personnel serving within the Headquarters, but also on the Multinational Command and Support Brigade and the supporting elements, whose contribution is essential to the planning and execution of the exercise. The collective effort of all participants will ensure that the organization can train as it intends to operate.
One of the main objectives of this exercise is to provide an honest assessment of our current capabilities. It allows to take a clear snapshot of the Headquarters, identify gaps, recognize areas requiring improvement, and implement corrective actions where necessary. By doing so, EC HQ can address weaknesses early and progressively build the level of readiness required for the Joint Evaluation in late 2027, through NATO’s Steadfast Dual 2027 exercise.
«COMMON TENACITY gives us a unique opportunity to improve and prepare for the challenges ahead. We all know the constraints we face, like so many other headquarters, but we have to face those challenges to be ready to operate. Adaptation, initiative, and teamwork are what will enable us to accomplish the mission, always with the objective of contributing to peace and security wherever the six Framework Nations of EC decide», concludes Colonel Thiry.
