14 October 2026

On October 12, the Spanish contingent of the Eurocorps commemorated Spain’s National Day with a military ceremony held at the Lizé barracks in Strasbourg. Presided over by Lieutenant General Aroldo Lázaro, Commander of the Eurocorps, the event was a significant occasion to honor Spain, recognize the dedication and commitment of its Armed Forces, and celebrate the values of unity, loyalty, and camaraderie that guide their service.

The ceremony was attended by Spain’s Ambassador to the Council of Europe, Rosa Velázquez Álvarez, alongside other civil and military authorities. Family members and friends of Eurocorps personnel also attended the military parade, as did military colleagues from the various Framework and Associated Nations that make up the unit.

In his address, General Lázaro highlighted the importance of teamwork in facing the Eurocorps’ future challenges with the utmost dedication and effort, while reaffirming Spain’s commitment to contributing to international peace and stability.

Subsequently, various national and international decorations were awarded in recognition of the service, dedication, and achievements of Eurocorps military personnel, with special emphasis on the MILEX 26 exercise conducted in Zaragoza, Spain, last June.

Finally, tribute was paid to Spaniards throughout history who gave their lives for their country; the ceremony concluded with Ambassador Velázquez and General Lázaro laying a laurel wreath at the memorial brazier honoring the fallen.

As one of the Eurocorps’ five framework nations, Spain plays a fundamental role in the multinational headquarters and maintains a firm commitment to its mission and objectives. The celebration served to highlight Spain’s ongoing contribution to multinational military cooperation and its commitment to strengthening European security and defense. Likewise, he highlighted the importance of solidarity, interoperability, and shared values among the nations that make up the Eurocorps.
