LEBACH, Germany – 9 September 2026. Major Mark G. assumed command of the Eurocorps Signal Company from Major Tobias M. during a formal change-of-command ceremony at Graf Haeseler Barracks in Lebach.
The ceremony brought together soldiers of the company as well as senior military and civilian representatives, underlining the close ties between the Eurocorps Signal Company, its multinational military environment and the State of Saarland.
Among the distinguished guests were Reinhold Jost (Saarland Minister of the Interior), Klauspeter Brill (Mayor of Lebach), Brigadier General Henning Weeke (Eurocorps Deputy Chief of Staff Support), Colonel Stephane Counasse (Commander of the Eurocorps Multinational Command Support Brigade) and Lieutenant-Colonel Peter T. (Head of the German National Support Detachment Eurocorps).
The company formed up for the official ceremony. In accordance with military tradition, Lieutenant Colonel T. formally transferred command of the Eurocorps Signal Company from Major M. to Major G.
The ceremonial handover marked the visible transfer of responsibility for the soldiers, readiness and mission accomplishment of the company to its new commander.
Addressing the troops, Minister Jost praised the soldiers for their commitment to Germany and particularly to the State of Saarland. He highlighted the company’s contribution not only to its military mission but also to the wider community, including its support during flood-relief operations.
His remarked the strong relationship between the Bundeswehr personnel serving within Eurocorps and their home region of Saarland.
In his farewell address, Major M. placed his soldiers at the centre of his remarks.
He thanked the men and women of the company for their professionalism, commitment and strong teamwork throughout his time in command. Despite challenging circumstances, he emphasized, the company had consistently accomplished its tasks and demonstrated reliability and cohesion.
Brigadier General Weeke thanked Major M. for his leadership and the excellent cooperation throughout his tenure. Turning towards the future, he welcomed Major G. to his new responsibility – and made sure the incoming commander was properly equipped for his new role. Among his first gifts was a travel guide to Strasbourg and Brigadier General Weeke explained humorously that the guide should help the new commander find his way around the Eurocorps’ “mother house” in Strasbourg.
The gesture highlighted the unique position of the Eurocorps Signal Company: firmly rooted in Lebach/Saarland while serving as an integral part of a multinational headquarters and organization in France.
A change-of-command ceremony is more than a military tradition. It visibly marks the transfer of leadership, authority and responsibility from one commander to another in front of the soldiers entrusted to their command. For the Eurocorps Signal Company, the ceremony in Lebach therefore represented both a farewell and a new beginning.
After recognizing Major M’s leadership and service, the company now moves forward under Major G. – continuing its mission in support of Eurocorps and its multinational partners.
