Comillas Pontifical University Students Visit Eurocorps Headquarters in Strasbourg

21 July 2026

As part of an academic program in Strasbourg, students from Comillas Pontifical University’s Dual Degree in International Relations and International Communication visited the Eurocorps Headquarters on 7 July, gaining first-hand insight into a unique multinational military organisation in Europe.

The delegation, composed of 31 students and two faculty members from Madrid, was welcomed by General Carlos Castrillo, the Deputy Chief of Staff Plans who introduced the students to the mission, structure, and strategic role of Eurocorps. Then he answered their questions about the organisation’s contribution to European security and defense. Eurocorps is currently commanded by Spain under the leadership of Lieutenant General Aroldo Lázaro.

The visit continued with a comprehensive presentation by the Public Affairs and Communication Office, which outlined the missions, capabilities, and operations of Eurocorps. Students learned how the multinational headquarters serves both the European Union and NATO through its dual command-and-control role, reflecting its growing importance in the evolving European security landscape.

The session concluded with a lively discussion between the students and Eurocorps personnel, providing opportunities to exchange perspectives on current international security challenges. The delegation also toured the headquarters, gaining a closer look at the organisation’s day-to-day activities.

Visits such as this offer students valuable exposure to the practical dimensions of international relations and European defense cooperation. The experience formed part of a broader academic program in Strasbourg, where the students also visited several European and international institutions based in the city.
