Zaragoza, Spain, June 2026, as MILEX26 has concluded and participating forces return to their home stations, the exercise leaves behind more than validated procedures and lessons learned. It also highlights the people whose daily work enables multinational cooperation. Among them is Sergeant Sophienga, a French non-commissioned officer from French Guiana who served as Clerk within the Force Headquarters structure during MILEX26. For her, the key challenge is speed under pressure.
“The biggest challenge is time pressure. We have to react extremely quickly. The only way to do that is through preparation. Everything must already be ready before I have an order.”
Sergeant Sophienga joined the French Army only a few years ago and deliberately sought a multinational assignment after graduating from the NCO Academy. Today, she serves at Eurocorps Headquarters in Strasbourg, leading a small team.
“Eurocorps was a challenge for me. I wanted to prove myself. I was willing to do everything necessary to get here.”
Her experience during MILEX26 reinforced the value of the multinational environment.
“In a multinational headquarters, you see different perspectives and a very high level of engagement. Every day you learn from each other. I feel a strong responsibility towards my nation, but also towards the multinational team. For me, both belong together.”
During the exercise, she also took part in a filmed inject supporting the training audience, an unexpected but valuable experience in a complex operational setting.
“People sometimes see that I am young. What they do not always see is that I already have big ambitions and responsibility.”
For Sergeant Sophienga, MILEX26 confirmed why she chose Eurocorps: the opportunity to contribute to something larger than herself.
“Working in a multinational environment challenges you every day. You learn from others, you grow professionally and you contribute to a common mission.”
Her story reflects a broader reality of Eurocorps and the European Union’s defence efforts. Multinational readiness is not only created by commanders and major capabilities, but also by young soldiers, non-commissioned officers and specialists who ensure that complex headquarters functions work under pressure. As MILEX26 demonstrated, European security is a collective effort built on cooperation between nations, cultures and people. Sergeant Sophienga’s journey shows that contributing to European security is not reserved for a select few, it begins with those willing to take responsibility, work together and turn shared European ambition into daily reality.
As MILEX26 concludes, her experience reflects a simple truth: the next generation of European readiness is already here.
